NAMIBIAN TRIP

Day Date Route for day Km. to cover Overnight 1.   Cape Town, Steinkopf 700   2.   Steinkopf, Ai-Ais hot springs: This resort is dependant on the mood of the river, which either floods or is completely dry, but it has good facilities such as a spar at the hot water mineral spring. 289 Ai-Ais hot springs 3.   Fish River Canyon view point, Seeheim, Gougeb, Aus, Luderitz: Enjoy a glimpse into the Canyon from Hobas and then walk through the once thriving community at Kolmanskop ghost houses at Luderitz. 502 Shark Island Resort 4.   Naukluft Park, Sesriem: Enjoy the beauty of the desert and some of the highest sand dunes in the world, we can either walk or enjoy a 4x4 drive. 354 Sesriem camp site 5.   Sesriem, Mariental: Hardap dam is about 32km long with many species of aquatic birds and all the facilities to be found at resorts. 276 Hardap Recreation Resort 6.   Mariental, Rehoboth, Windhoek: The capital of Namibia. Plenty places of interest to visit. 261 B&B-Windhoek 7.   Windhoek, Okahandja, Karibib, Usakos, Swakopmund, Walvis Bay: This is the major port in Namibia, we might also see examples of Wel-Witschia mirabilis-primitive plants. The Walvis Bay Wetland area are world famous for the bird life. 386 Walvis Bay 8.   Walvis Bay, Hentiesbaai, Uis, Khorixas visit places of interest: petrified forest, ancient rock paintings, organ pipes and burnt mountain. 377+244 Camp Xaragu 9.   Khorixas, Outjo, Okaukuejo, Etosha National Park: Opportunity to visit Etosha Pan and to view The big five at close proximity from waterholes. 245+100 Okaukuejo Resort 10.   Okahanjo, Namutoni, Tsumeb: This is the land of the Herero, dressed in their traditional Victorian- looking garb. • On day five we can drive directly to Walvis Bay from Sesriem, which will be about 313km instead of travelling to Mariental. This will be dependent on the condition of the road at the time

The suggested route will involve 3-4 hours of driving each day, the longest distances to be covered will be the drive into Namibia and back into SA from Namibia. Depending on the opinion of the group we will follow the intended itinerary or stop over for longer periods at certain areas where they want to visit longer. We intend staying on the main route most of the way, and will only deviate to visit places of interest along the route. Most of the overnight stops will be at Namibian Wildlife Resorts or in camping areas where we will be accommodated in huts.
