Cape Province Mountain Club (CPMC) was established in 1931 in the Western Cape with membership from different races, as it was a non-racial club from the time of its inception. Through the years the membership number varied but it stayed at or above fifty. The club maintained an active mountaineering program of mountaineering meets ranging from rock climbing, hiking, kloofing and river rafting. It also has an active outreach programme through which it endeavours to teach and encourage those less fortunate to know and enjoy what the mountain has to offer. CPMC has a hut on the Back Table near the reservoirs, which is available to its members and other groups who have a wish to overnight on the mountain subject to the condition that a member of the club accompany them unless they have a good record with the club.
The Objectives Of The Club:
To promote a love and appreciation of mountains.
To arrange and organise expeditions.
To instruct members in the technique of mountain climbing.
To preserve mountain flora and fauna in their natural state.
To organise and assist in search and rescue parties when the need arises.
